What Sparks Your Creative Fire?

Welcome to Ankhora's biweekly nurturing of the sacred trinity - mind, body, and soul. In each newsletter we intend to bring you a dose of inspiration, wisdom, and practices to enhance your well-being within those three major layers of life.

The creative juices have been flowing a bit, so as I usually say, figuratively (and literally) speaking, “I’ve been cookin’.” Aside from doing some graphic design work here and there, I’ve also been working on a new book so that has been fun. The process of putting a book together is a ton of work, but very gratifying and exciting at this same time once I get going.

Before I started the book, I had a brother of mine reach out last week and want to reignite his S.L.A.P. Campaign, which stands for ‘Spread Love and Peace’.  After he came up with the idea, I brought it to life visually and worked on a few shirts for him a couple of years ago. 

To be honest, I’ve worked on so many projects since then that I forgot about it. He hit me and asked about ordering a couple of shirts, so I had to refresh my memory on what was previously created. I love the idea of this campaign because it provides a much needed message for the world, especially in these times with so much tension and turmoil. Love and peace should be at the root of all we do as a society.  

After receiving that request for the new t-shirt order I received a divine spark of inspiration and immediately went to work on some updates and new designs. Here’s what I came up with:

With all that being said, what lights your creative fire? It could be anything from making or producing music to writing, drawing, painting, arts & crafts, cooking, etc. The challenge this week is to find something that satisfies our inner child’s need to create.

Aside from writing, designing and making clothes for myself and others has been a go-to lately. If you ever see me in a T-shirt, there’s a 95% chance I designed it. There’s a certain level of satisfaction and freedom that comes with knowing whatever I wear is unique and custom to me. Remember, “If you see the B, you know that’s me.” Be unapologetically you. Authenticity is key! 

Mindful Alignment:
  • Mental Gem: Instead of worrying or thinking about what could go wrong, switch up your mindset and ask yourself, “How good can it get? What is the best that can happen?”

  • Mindful Moment: Connect with nature - Spend 5 minutes outside, simply observing nature. Whether it’s the sound of the wind, the feel of the ground beneath your feet, or the sight of leaves swaying, immerse yourself in the moment. Let the connection to the earth ground and calm you.

Physical Alignment:
  • Herbal Spotlight: Slippery Elm - a soothing and healing herb known for its mucilaginous properties, which create a gel-like substance when mixed with water. This makes it highly effective for soothing irritation in the throat, stomach, and intestines. Internally, slippery elm is often used to relieve digestive discomfort, including indigestion, acid reflux, and inflammatory bowel conditions. It helps coat the digestive tract, reducing inflammation and promoting healing.

    Externally, slippery elm can be applied as a poultice to soothe skin irritations, burns, and wounds. Rich in antioxidants, it also supports the body’s natural healing processes.

  • Top Tier Nourishment: 

  • Tuning into the Body: Currently, my body has been feeling good overall. Staying loose and making sure I am disciplined in my daily practice of Yoga/Qigong has been very beneficial with helping to ground my energy and get acclimated to the new energies hitting the planet. Drinking tons of coconut water to stay hydrated and eating my usual hefty doses of fruits and veggies is keeping me feeling light and energized.

  • Soulful Insights: Embrace Stillness - In the quiet moments, we find clarity. Allow yourself to pause and listen to your inner wisdom.

  • Affirming the Best: I am aligned with the highest version of myself, and I trust the path that unfolds before me.
